The first Oscillations festival, Oscillations 2003, was co-produced by Karin Aurell (CMC, Atlantic Region) and Steven Naylor (CEC), and hosted by Acadia University.
Guest presenter Kevin Austin (Concordia University, Montréal) introduced an eclectic audience to the principles of concert diffusion, using both contemporary and classic Canadian works. For many in the audience, it was an ear-opening initiation to multi-speaker electroacoustic music.
For Oscillations 2005, the producers brought guest composer and workshop host Robert Normandeau to Acadia. During three concerts, Robert’s stunning multi-channel works, and performances by Atlantic-based artists, captivated small but enthusiastic audiences.
Soon after, Karin Aurell left the CMC to return to full-time performing; without her remarkable energy and initiative some of the Oscillations momentum was temporarily lost.
However, in 2007, a new partnership of composer/producers Bob Bauer and Steven Naylor (representing The Oscillations Music Society), and Norman Adams (suddenlyLISTEN artistic director), came together to produce an expanded Oscillations 2008, and move the festival to a new home in Halifax.
